Q
I wonder why, when using Word, when I change the font etc it keeps flicking back to something I don't want.

A
Word holds all your standard layout information is a special template called Normal.dot. This is in fact the template behind all your documents. When you make a change to the standard layout or font information it is then held in specific formatting information at the end of each paragraph or section. It is then very easy to inadvertently delete the critical format information. This information includes information about font style and size, layout and other key information.

The trick is to turn on the hidden characters in the document, the symbol ¶ on the tool bar.

This way you can be sure you always leave the last symbol on a paragraph or section alone when you are changing fonts or styles.
