REUSE THAT OLD PC
In his article in the August/September 2008 issue of The Wychwood, Karl Wilde describes how to make good use of an old PC by reusing it. Here are the various links he refers to for OpenSource software plus a link to a description of his own specific setups.

For a good version of Linux together with the Apache browser
Ubuntu Linux www.ubuntu.com

Firewall software
Smooothwall www.smoothwall.org

File server software
FreeNAS www.freenas.org

These are all installed and configured by downloading a CD image, burning to CD as an ISO image not a file (very important), and booting from the CD then follow the prompts.

He has detailed his on setup at
www.foxeyes.org.uk which also has links to useful sites.
