Do you feel it in your fingers … (or) in your toes?* Love is all around us as we head into February and towards Valentines Day!
Some embrace it – giving or receiving lavish gifts, or romantic gestures. Some are indifferent to it. Still others, are desperate to avoid it.
Our attitude, perhaps depends on our current situation or past experience. If we are in love, we are likely going to feel very different towards it, than those who are longing for love, or grieving over lost love.
So, what is the greatest expression of love? I propose it’s more than gifts or meals out. It’s giving of ourselves to another. Showing that person we love them in our attitudes and actions towards them. True love is expressed in making sacrifices of our time, being willing to forgo something ourselves, for the sake of our loved ones.
As a Christian, I believe the Bible shows us the greatest expression of love. The love God has shown towards us in sending his one and only Son, Jesus into the world in order to repair our broken relationship with Him. A love greater than any other, expressed through Jesus laying down his life for us (John 3:16; 15:13-14).
So, as you are enjoying (or avoiding!) Valentine’s day – take a moment to reflect on God’s love for you. If you want to know more about it, ask me!
