Read Now: June July 2024
A note from the editor
One old song – very old – starts ‘Summer is a comin’ in, loudly sing “Cuckoo”’. Well, its June now and if summer has arrived, it has certainly taken its time after a cold and soggy spring, which all means that this issue of The Wychwood is well timed with its focus on Out and About. It is a relief to be able to get outside again and this magazine is full of ideas of what to do once you get outside.
Our writers have been busy. Some outdoor activities are close at hand such as the appeal of dog walking across our fields. Some are freely available like the Wychwood Forest. Others are slightly further afield but well worth exploring; how about North Cerney or Chastleton House? Maybe a bike ride or local walk to explore? Yes, this issue will open many a pair of eyes. And you can read about the paraglider who dropped into tea.
But there are many other fascinating articles in this issue. Find out about the notorious Gallows Tree above the Wychwoods which is the likely origin of that phrase ‘every Tom, Dick and Harry’, read about a very well earned set of gold medals and so much more.
Next time, our focus for August and September will move from places to people when Families and Friends become our main contents. Why not contact us and suggest an article or feature around this theme?
As usual, the path of the magazine is in your hands.
