A note from the editor

There is one theme running right across this issue of The Wychwood Magazine, a theme that owes much to a famous pair of actors, loved across our airwaves. Timothy West, renowned for his Shakespearean roles, married Prunella Scales 60 years ago. She is probably best remembered for her part in ‘Fawlty Towers’. Together they starred in a series of canal journeys which recorded in compassionate detail how West came to terms with the gathering dementia of his wife. Their Diamond Wedding led our editorial team to choose the theme of

connections for this issue.

So what sort of connections can you expect to find as we head towards our 45th year? Two couples, Martin and Margaret Gibbs in Milton plus Christine and Gordon Halliday in Shipton chart their respective journeys through many years of marriage – we were too tactful to ask exactly how many. Then there is the change noticed by many in the complex always known as Groves’ Yard as it moves away from its traditional focus on the building trade, connecting with something much more diverse. Our article on 20th century careers follows the progress of Michael Rosenblum all the way from New York to Shipton – some connection.

But it’s not just connections. We have gathered together some of the favourite winter activities of our readers and there is an interview with Dr Nina Brown, a hugely respected member of staff at the Wychwood surgery.

Yes, as usual, there is something for everyone.
