Fifield news

Looking forward, the calendar of events in Fifield during the first six months of 2022 has begun to take shape.  There will be a Garage Sale at Fifield House on 2nd April form 11.00am – 3.00pm and on 4th April the Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held at 6.00pm to elect Churchwardens and PCC members.

An Exhibition of Fifield Memories will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 9th April, in connection with the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.  If anyone has any interesting memorabilia relating to Fifield which they would prepared to lend for the occasion, please contact Lynne Freeman (832 791).

Plantinum Jubilee Events will be held on Thursday 2nd June where there will be a Beacon Bonfire at Fifield House and on Sunday 5th June where we will have The Jubilee Big Lunch, also at Fifield House.

Green Fifield

Last year an informal group under the leadership of Sam Davies met on a number of occasions to consider ways in which the community could encourage the greening of the physical environment in and around Fifield.  Amongst other projects action was taken to manage areas of grass and verges so as to encourage wildflowers, and contacts were made with similar organisations in West Oxfordshire.  The next step is to draw up a formal Constitution and to develop a comprehensive programme of activities which is likely to include tree planting and a series of talks.  Currently meetings are being held on the last Monday of each month.

The end of an era

Readers may recall an article by Les Wilcox in the October-November 2021 edition of The Wychwood about his lifetime in Fifield where he spent virtually all his 94 years.   Sadly, Les died on   24th January and his funeral, in a packed church, took place on 16th February.  He left behind a very extensive collection of photographs and clippings which are an invaluable source of information for those who want to know more about the history of Fifield in the 20th century.  Some of these will be on display at the Exhibition of Fifield Memories in the Village Hall on Saturday 9th April.  (see above)
