Books for free!

The library finally reopened on 12th April and we have been delighted to welcome back our customers. We have plenty of new stock and all the latest releases are available to reserve.

New members: It is free to join. You can join at the library or online, whatever works for you. You can have up to 20 books and five audiobooks for three weeks or more and can use your ticket at any Oxfordshire library as well as online to access our e-books and e-audio titles. Reservations are free and unlimited for children and only £1.30 for adults. Check out the Oxfordshire Library website for more details.

Keeping track: You can keep track of your loans, renew and reserve on the Oxfordshire library app or through the website. You just need your barcode and pin number to log in and you can link junior tickets so you can see what titles your children have squirrelled away!

The librarian recommends: Over the last lockdown, I had a wonderful binge on all of Andrew Taylor’s wonderful Restoration thrillers; the first is ‘The Ashes of London’, while ‘The Royal Secret’ has recently been released in hardback. Fascinating period, engaging characters and entirely gripping. If you like C.J Sansom books I think you would enjoy these titles. Brit Bennett’s ‘The Vanishing Half’ and Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet, both shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for fiction, were also beautifully written, intriguing and easy to lose oneself in!

For Key Stage 2 children, ‘YouthQuake’ by Tom Adams comes highly recommended; lushly illustrated two-page biographies of children who have made a difference which delve into geography, politics and ethics. My children have also thoroughly enjoyed the selection of e-audiobooks available through the library, old favourites like Winnie the Witch, Paddington and Meg and Mog, but also new titles by David Walliams, Cressida Cowell and others. Well worth checking out for avid readers as well as parents and grandparents wanting a few minutes peace.

A big thank you to our tireless volunteer co-ordinators and team who are back in action yet again. Your efforts, and good company, are appreciated!
