Wychwood School: all is calm, all is bright

8th March saw all the children return back to school and although one or two may have been a bit nervous they all settled back into the school routine very easily.  They were all so pleased to see their friends and catch up on each other’s news and we have had mini parties on the last day of term in their classes to make up for birthday parties missed.

There was lots of concern from parents that the children would get behind with their learning by not being in school. The teachers have been covering topics from lessons missed and doing some revision on what they have been learning online at home.  The teachers continue to assess the children’s abilities and provide further learning where there may be some gaps.  PE and Forest School are great outdoor activities that the children really enjoy and we are now allowed to run after school sports clubs, so football clubs have started three days a week.  Yes we are still living in bubbles; it can get to the end of the day and as staff leave you realise you have not seen them all day!  We still have our split times for drop off and collection and a rota of three sittings for lunches which works well, but we did say the other day we are not sure if we can remember how the school ran before COVID struck!

Some areas of life have continued as normal, and with family moves we welcome new children to the school.  But people also move on and it is with great pride that we are able to share with you that Mrs Loader will be moving on to her first headship at Bishop Loveday CE Primary School in September 2021. She has been the Deputy Headteacher at our school for 7 years. She will be missed here at Wychwood; her drive, enthusiasm and commitment to supporting all the children will be hard to replace.

With the relaxing of regulations, outdoor sports are now allowed and we have our all-weather pitch open again for bookings.  It is a half-sized pitch which is presently being let for ladies’ netball and men’s walking football and was hired for Mini Tennis over the Easter holidays, but does not have markings for a tennis court.  It is available after school, 5.00 – 9.00pm, weekends and school holidays. If anyone is interested in hiring the pitch, please email the school office at office.3257@wychwood-pri.oxon.sch.uk and we can provide further information.
