Wychwood Library in 2020

Welcome back to Wychwood Library! Our current opening times, restrictions permitting, are: Mon 2pm-5pm; Weds 9.30am-1pm & 2pm-5pm; Fri 2pm-5pm; Sat 9.30am-1pm

Harry Potter Night

We had an exciting start to 2020 – completely unrelated to Covid-19. On a dark winter’s night in January, a coven of young wizards gathered to celebrate Harry Potter Night 2020.  The trainee wizards answered a Harry Potter Quiz, made their own potions and had their own spell lesson, as well as a themed feast. Team Gryffindor were victorious and all the wizards returned home with their own magic wands! We enjoyed dressing up for the occasion and fun was had by all.

World Book Day

February heralded World Book Day. Throughout February and early March, I visited local schools  dressed as a superhero potato- Supertato! (A new character from Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet.) We shared potato and superhero themed rhymes, parachute games and stories and made superhero head-dresses. I also organised a visit to Wychwood Primary School by Korky Paul, the illustrator of the Winnie the Witch books and had the opportunity to dress up as Winnie.  What an inspiration 😊

Reopening

We reopened on the 5th October before we closed for the second lockdown and subsequent restrictions. We have new systems in place to keep our customers safe, including quarantining of books, masks, sanitizer and test and trace forms.

Friends and Volunteers

A big thank you to the Friends group and to our committed volunteers for supporting the library during these challenging times. Sadly, not all our volunteers were able to return and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work over the years and to wish them well for the future. Our volunteer co-ordinators have had to mobilise quickly after both lock-downs and I appreciate their dedication as well as their company!

Our Wychwood library is always looking out for volunteers.  We have a very sociable team of helpers who would greatly appreciate your company during regular opening times.  Full training and equipment will be provided.  If this attracts you, please contact Marianne (details below) or you could just drop in (restrictions permitting) .  Thank you for considering this opportunity.

2021

In 2021, I hope to be able to encourage existing and new customers back to the library. I have ordered £350 of new stock, in addition to the books supplied by the library service, thanks to a generous donation from the Wychwood Friends Group. I hope to find ways to recommence events and start liaising again with the local schools and pre-schools.  I am passionate about the services you can receive from the library: books, audiobooks, e-books, e-audio and much more and am very keen to spread the word!
