John Edwin Pratley

It is with sadness that we heard of the passing of John Pratley on 24th March. John and June lived in Milton for 27 years and made many friends and have featured in recent years in this very magazine. They were active in the community, notably arranging venues for the Luncheon Club, and for many years John ordered the seeds for the allotment and garden club from Dobies. In recent years they became members of the Chapel but latterly, due to John’s failing health, he was unable to take the short walk round.

June was finding it increasingly difficult to manage to run their home so in July 2019 they moved to assisted accommodation near their son in Surrey. They settled well and soon John became the life and soul of the bar area (coffee mornings!) and in his usual style addressed all the ladies, mainly widows, as “Darling”, which they all thought was hilarious. He hated hospitals and collapsed at home with June by his side; he didn’t suffer. At his 88th birthday just the month before, he had a party at his new home with all his family, including his brother-in-law whom he was rarely able to see, and all his new friends at the home. The family who attended this gathering can remember John at his best, holding court with all his “Darlings” gathered round and a huge tray of sausage rolls to munch, a favourite.

Good memories.
