Lockdown – a shop assistant’s view

rosiedodds01Rosie Dodds works as a shop assistant and here she gives her reflections on the lockdown.

In my life I’ve never experienced anything so frightening and as deadly as the Covid 19 outbreak.  But one thing that everyone needs to survive this period is food and drink.  Our shop has been amazingly busy and to say that the staff are stressed out is an understatement.  Although Wednesday is my day off, I have often had to work all or part of that day as we have so many customers.  I don’t think there has been any real panic buying but we have had problems obtaining some stock such as pasta and rice.  When the delivery lorry arrives and leaves the stock on the flatbed pallets, we are often too busy serving the customers to give us time to restock the shelves.

In a world where we cherish going out to the arts or enjoying summer sports, I will be glad when it’s all over.  But I’m trying to look on the bright side when I say that this time could be the making of the nation.  Be kind.
