Page 17 art weeks logo rdThis year, as part of Oxfordshire Artweeks (www.artweeks.org), the Wychwoods will be represented by Alison Townley, Cally Bond, Ian Sanders and Julia Sorrell R.I., whose studios will be open 9-17 May.

Alison Townley, a hobby potter, relatively new to the delights of working with clay, creates functional stoneware pieces thrown on the wheel and finished by hand. Her focus is on creating simple forms with a variety of surface decoration techniques. You can see examples of her work on Instagram @wychwoodpottery

Cally Bond, a self-taught artist who loves pen sketching and painting in acrylic, can usually be found in her garage surrounded by brushes and paint. Seascapes, pop art and animal sketching allow her vivid imagination to be let loose! Cally’s work can be found on Instagram @twintomatoes.com

Ian Sanders’ hand-sculpted tree-tables hewn from native British trees are flowing, smooth, functional and decorative, yet unusual and naturalistic. Coming from a scientific plant-based background the structure and growth of trees is vital to Ian who creates his tree-tables as if a sculptor rather than a furniture maker. www.tree-tables.co.uk

Julia Sorrell R.I. paints from direct observation depicting subject matters often overlooked whether they be flowers, rocks or human forms yet evoking emotions universal to us all. www.juliasorrell.com.

For Alison, Cally, Ian and Julia it is their first time exhibiting in Oxfordshire Artweeks and in fact Ian and Julia have only recently moved to Oxfordshire. Hopefully the diversity of work shown will ensure a lovely day out for everyone from the Wychwoods and beyond.
