This is an exciting new venture led by a group of volunteers providing a place for people of all ages to meet, either over a shared interest in craft activities, or simply to socialise whilst enjoying light refreshments in the company of others.
Ceramics painting and block printing are available weekly with a wider range of arts and crafts techniques such as mosaics, découpage and flower arranging to be introduced over the coming months. In order to keep costs to a minimum it is hoped that people will be keen to share their hobbies, skills and knowledge with the community. Specific art and craft activities are planned for children during school holidays while the well-equipped pre-school area allows small children to explore paints and malleable materials. Pumpkin carving day proved to be extremely popular and many Christmas presents were produced by the children in the form of painted ceramics and printed tea towels.
Local residents are encouraged to bring along surplus garden produce, jams and chutneys to be sold on the produce table for which a 10% commission charge is made. ‘Nearly new’ clothing can also be bought and sold. The uptake on this has been so popular that we are encouraging people to contact us to ensure space will be available on the day. As well as hands on arts and crafts some of the extremely talented local artists and craftspeople regularly exhibit and sell their work providing the opportunity to purchase beautiful cards, jewellery and handicrafts on our doorstep.
The café is open to all, every Thursday between 10.00a.m. and 3.00p.m. in Milton village hall providing a light lunch menu with hot and cold drinks, cakes and pastries available throughout the day. As far as possible food products are home made by the volunteers who are reimbursed for their expenses to ensure they will not be out of pocket. Profits made will be shared between Milton Village Hall, to support the upkeep of the premises, and nominated charitable organisations.
Please feel free to pop in – we look forward to welcoming you.
