Wychwood Library bulletin

marieannelegoIt is never too late to join the library
We would love to see ‘Join the library’ on your list of New Year’s Resolutions. You can join by coming into any Oxfordshire library or online through the website: https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/leisure-and-culture/libraries. It is completely free and gives you free access to e-books and e-audio as well as entitling you to borrow books, DVDs and CDs. There is a whole range of free online reference resources too, including Ancestory. Go on! You will not regret it…

An evening with Mick Herron
We are very excited to be able to welcome Mick Herron to Wychwood Library in Spring 2020- date still to be confirmed. Mick Herron is one of the biggest names in crime writing and lives and works in Oxford. He is the author of the acclaimed Jackson Lamb series, the first of which, the Steel Dagger-nominated Slow Horses, was hailed by the Daily Telegraph as one of the ‘the twenty greatest spy novels of all time’. Take a look at his website for more information: http://www.mickherron.com/. All his books are available to borrow or reserve from Wychwood Library. More details to follow!

Code Club
We are excited to announce that Code Club officially begins on Weds 15th January from 3.30-4.30 for 7-11 year olds. It will continue until Weds 12th February and hopefully beyond! Our code club projects will teach you how to create games, animations and more with code. For more information see https://codeclub.org/en/. You can join for free but booking is essential as places are limited. Please email: wychwood.library@oxfordshire.gov.uk, call 01993 830281 or drop into the library to book.

Lego Club
We love Lego at Wychwood Library. Lego Club is going from strength to strength. Thank you to Sue Mellerick for her time and enthusiasm and to everyone who has donated Lego to us. Donations are still welcome.

We always welcome new volunteers to join our strong and enthusiastic team, whether it’s as a stock helper, home library service volunteer or coffee morning helper. We’d love to hear from you.

Wychwood Library is currently a hub for terracycling, organised by SWAG- the Sustainable Wychwoods in Action Facebook Group. There are four types of recycling for collection, which need to be kept separate if possible. For more information contact the group directly or see the terracycle website. They are collecting:

  • Biscuit and cracker wrappers
  • Bread bags
  • Snack packets e.g. nuts, popcorn, crisps
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and packaging
  • Pens, felt tips, markers and highlighters

And finally, a BIG thank you to my amazing volunteer team at the library and a wonderful Christmas and New Year to you all!

Marianne Ferrero
Wychwood Library Manager
