Shipton church roof

shiptonchurchscaffoldingWalk into St Mary’s church and the first thing you see is a huge and complex scaffold structure which stretches to the roof of the nave. A boarded platform at the top of the scaffolding has allowed access for experts to survey the damage to the roof. The repairs and renovation required to rectify the damage are very complex and specialised. Hence, it has needed an architect, a structural engineer, a quantity surveyor and a timber specialist to provide a comprehensive schedule of works and the associated costs.

In addition to the repair work for the nave roof timbers there is a requirement for leadwork and stonework repairs on the external roof. This will require scaffolding to external elevations. The North and South aisle roofs also need to be surveyed to ascertain whether or not there are any potential problem areas.

Although we have already held a few events to raise funds, once we know the full extent of the repairs we will be more active in our fund raising.
