A life remembered

Saturday 23rd March was always going to be an emotional day for my family as it would have been my brother’s 42nd Birthday. Sadly Neil, who grew up in Milton and spent most of his life living here, died suddenly from a brain tumour in June 2017. F or the second year running, we decided to hold The Big Bandana Bake raising funds for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Last year was a phenomenal success raising over £1000 for the charity. We set our target as £300 as we felt that we could never match the first bake sale. Again, the Co-op offered us some space for a wet weather option. Cakes, traybakes and biscuits all poured in and we even had a heart cake iced with the words “remembering Neil”.

The sunshine came out that morning and so did the good folk of The Wychwoods. The Brain Tumour Charity sent their Fundraising Rep, Steph along and she was overwhelmed by the community spirit, friendliness, support and of course the huge pile of cakes. By midday the cakes had all gone and we can now send a cheque to The Brain Tumour Charity for £1200 which equates to four and a half days’ research into this heart-breaking disease. What amazing kindness flows through our community.
