Shipton Parish – Annual Meeting

Record breaker
“This,” announced county councillor Liz Leffman, “must be the best suppported parish meeting I have ever attended!”

Yes, she was referring to the Annual Parish Meeting which took place recently at the New Beaconsfield Hall. The Parish Council were keen to attract a wider audience than seen previously and many people attended the event, no doubt attracted by the promise of wine and cheese on arrival! The hall was full with an informal arrangement of tables and chairs provided for attendees. Wine flowed, cheese honked and conversation bubbled.

Local sports clubs and societies had created stands to showcase their organisation and encourage new membership. During the evening there were presentations from building developers Deansfield and Broadband provider Gigaclear. In a very full agenda, other items included the Tennis Club (discussing their application for floodlighting), The Wild Garden and Speedwatch as well as updates from our County and District councillors. Discussion ranged freely and sociably with absolutely no evidence of ‘bees in bonnets’! All was sweetness and light.

With a lot currently going on in the village, Chairman Brian Rigby began the meeting saying he wished to encourage wider community engagement on these many issues. So, if you have strong opinions, any ideas or concerns, or even some spare time, please do get involved. The Parish Council needs your help to function most effectively.

Feedback has been very positive for this new style format. So, if you missed this APM, do try and make sure you come next year.
