Enthusiast at work

cambrayI am a traditional dry stone waller living in Ascott under Wychwood and am highly honoured to have been nominated for an award for this year’s ‘Countryside Alliance Awards.’

I undertake all sorts of stone work – wet and dry-stone walls, steps and patios but my true passion is dry stone work where I have undertaken work for parish councils, local churches, The National Trust, Lord and Lady Vestey, Elizabeth Murdoch, Barrett homes, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester as well as my many local farmers and general public.

I am out in all weathers with my trusty Land Rover and my one and only work colleague my Patterdale, often out before light to start the day as I love my job.

It is such a privilege to be able to put my stamp on our beautiful local countryside and provide future generations with knowledge and appreciation of a fast dying tradition. I have worked alongside a local primary school to preserve a time capsule showing the children’s artwork so that in future if ever it is found it can give the finder an insight into our local traditions and dates.

At time of press I’ve heard I’ve got further into being a regional finalist which in itself is mind boggling since there were over 17,000 nominations and I’m in the final four in my category ‘Rural Enterprise.’

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my loyal customers for voting for me and fingers crossed for the next stage!
