Shipton news

On Christmas Eve, a good sized crowd convened on the village green to sing carols around the tree. This year, the 50th anniversary of the first such occasion, we were joined by a local five piece brass band which was a very positive addition to the proceedings. A collection was made and an excellent sum of almost £500 was raised which has been donated to the Wychwood Saplings and BODS, the village drama group which provides support and encouragement for children aged 6 to 18. Many thanks to everyone who joined us for the singing and for their very generous contributions.

In February/March, we expect development work to commence on the new houses behind the school by Deansfield Homes. Also, around this same time we have been advised to expect work to start on the rollout of Superfast Fibre Broadband throughout the village, a government initiative for rural areas. This will be delivered by a company called Gigaclear, who were the winning provider for the WODC district. Look out for a Parish newsletter shortly when we will hope to provide further useful information of any road closures, diversions and updates from these two projects.
