Sing us another one

lizzieAs previously reported, the choir of the Wychwood Singers was devastated in the summer following the death of our much-loved Musical Director, Robin Martin-Oliver. He had been known to many of us for several years and, under his leadership, the choir had grown both in numbers and also musical repertoire. We hope we did him proud both at our summer concert when he was still able to conduct us and finally at his funeral. He will be forever in our thoughts.

We were absolutely certain that he would have wanted us to carry on and therefore we are now delighted to announce we have a new MD, Lizzie Soden. Lizzie is local to this area and currently lives in Witney. Since she joined us in September, we have been impressed with her skill and real enthusiasm for the role. She has been a professional musician ever since graduating from the Colchester Institute with a degree in vocal performance. She works with adults and children of all ages teaching singing, as well as piano, ukulele, composition and other musical elements.

It is fantastic that she had previously worked for many years as a vocal coach with Robin at his Stagecoach schools in Witney. She was also a pupil of his from 11-18 and we know she regards him as having had a big influence on her musical career. She is a member of the Burford Singers, the BK Chorale and also sings professionally with Voces Ecclesiae and conducts multiple choirs in the Oxfordshire area such as The Sutton Singers, The Brize Norton Military Wives Choir and a brand-new choir at the John Lewis store in Oxford.

From the first day we met her, it was clear Lizzie was extremely excited at the prospect of taking over the Wychwood Singers and she aims to continue with the high standard of performance previously delivered by Robin. She will continue to be ably assisted by our accompanist Lydia Tomita. Singing is such fun both for the heart and the soul and we think both our rehearsals and performances are great activities for participants and audiences alike. We always welcome new singers whether you are experienced or just someone who sings in the bath. No auditions are necessary, just come and see us in the New Beaconsfield Hall at 13:00 on Tuesdays or have a look at our new website:
