Burford School plays Broadway

brassinstrumentIn October, you may have attended the concert given by the school’s jazz ensemble All That Jazz when they performed at Milton Church. Or perhaps you were part of the community choir initiative which saw over 100 singers, both experienced and novices, create a ‘pop-up choir’ to perform Faure’s Requiem at Burford Church last March. Living so close to Burford, and with so many current and ex-students within the Wychwood villages, the outstanding reputation of the school’s music department cannot have passed you by.

Many of our events are open to the public and, over the past year the greatest reward for all the hard work that goes into each one, has been to see an increasing number of people, with no direct connection to the school, join us to experience the exceptionally high standard of musical performance.

The vibrant music department stages several events each term, and the students love performing both within and beyond school. One of the highlights of the jazz band’s calendar, for example, is the invitation to play annually at the Tower of London as part of the Water City Music Festival. Coupled with their appearances at local events, this is just one of the ensembles that regularly wows audiences with their playing.

In March 2019 we are staging our biennial Broadway musical which, this year, is Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. If you haven’t attended an event before, this highlight of the school’s musical life would certainly be a good place to start! With the help of professional lighting, sets and costumes, students will put on six performances – a treat for cast and audiences alike. It promises to be a great visual and musical extravaganza. If you would like to be involved by way of sponsorship, do get in touch with us. Local support is always much appreciated.

We are fortunate that music is a central part of Burford School life, valued and encouraged throughout all year groups. The dedicated team in the department are always keen to showcase the wonderful talent of our students, so do come and experience what Burford has to offer musically – we look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon.

Tickets for this and all our events are available online via Ticketsource (https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/burford-school).
