How much?

Easter Saturday, and another cake stall was held outside the Coop in Milton, except it wasn’t outside, but more of that in a moment. How much would a cake stall expect to raise? Perhaps £100, £200? Wrong. This cake stall, held in memory of Neil Ford, a friend to many in the community who died far too early of a brain tumour, raised a grand total of £1005 for The Brain Tumour Charity.

What makes this all the more remarkable is that it was raining so hard that day, that the Coop stepped in to offer a space inside for the stall. Bad weather and limited space could so easily have deterred the whole event. Perhaps it was Neil’s memory that moved people, maybe a recognition of the huge effort made by Neil’s sister, Nicola, his mother Barbara and their friends, maybe acknowledgement of ‘there but for the grace of God go I’ – whatever it was, thanks go to everyone who made this wet Saturday morning such an outstanding success.

In Nicola’s own words: “What a brilliant community we live in.”
