Shipton Parish Council Notes

April saw the last Annual Parish meeting under Brian Young’s chairmanship. We are all grateful for his calm and dedicated leadership. A new chairman will be elected at the May PC meeting and we all look forward to working with him/her.

We also welcome two new Councillors. Tim Brunsden and Tom Etherington. Tim was for 30 years a police officer, and then ran his own company before moving to the Wychwoods. Many will know him through his work with the Volunteers, the Speedwatch team, the Bowls Club and the New Beaconsfield Hall anniversary celebration team. Tom has lived locally for over 10 years and was a governor of Wychwood Primary School, which his children attended. He has a background in finance and property and enjoys travel, hiking and scuba diving. Both are looking forward to new challenges locally.

The District Council elections returned Jake Acock as the Lib Dem councillor for Shipton, Ascott and Lyneham in place of Tom Simcox, who has represented us for the last four years. Jake is a student at London University and lives in Leafield.

Finally, don’t forget the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the New Beaconsfield Hall on 14 July.
