Wychwood Photography Group – developing well

How time flies. Hard to believe the photo group has now been going for a year. When I first mooted the idea of setting up this group, I was amazed at the response with nearly twenty people expressing an interest and attending our inaugural meeting in November 2016. We had a broad range of experience from novices through to more seasoned keen amateurs (none of us are professionals) and one of the key aims of the group was for the latter to provide help and guidance to the former. This has worked well over the year although, not unexpectedly, a number of people have decided that it is not for them and the group now consists of around fourteen members.

So what do we do?
We begin the meetings by sharing what photographic activities we have been up to over the previous month then we will have one or two tutorial sessions, usually including an instructive video. Members are encouraged to share a selection of their photos via the online service Flickr.com and we include a session at the meetings where these can be reviewed and critiqued (constructively of course!).
In addition to the monthly meetings we organise the occasional group photo shoot outing, some examples being Tar Lakes in Witney, Cotswold Wildlife Park and Westonbirt Arboretum.

A useful resource
The group is also proving to be a useful source of photographs for The Wychwood, a great example being the photos of the Tour of Britain cyclists in the previous edition. This also provides a bit of exposure (pardon the pun) for our members – always good to see your efforts in public view. Do have a look at the centre pages of this edition for further examples of our efforts.

Come and join us
Whether you are new to photography and are keen to learn more, or you know your way round your camera fairly well and are happy to help others, you are very welcome to join us. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm in The Shaven Crown meeting room. Feel free to call or email me if you would like to come along or would like more information.
