Fifield News

Mediterranean Meze – Saturday 17th June in the gardens and grounds of Fifield House.
Blessed with perfect summer weather, over 100 guests entered into the spirit of the event and enjoyed a perfect evening of good company and Mediterranean food in a beautiful English garden and extended grounds, which include 700 year old trees planted by the monks from Bruern Abbey when Fifield Manor was given to the Abbey as a grange farm. The fund raising dinner included a very special raffle (all the prizes were made in Fifield or had a local connection) and although final figures are still being calculated, it seems certain that a figure in the order of £5,000 will be shared between local causes. Huge thanks are due to our chefs and to Simon and Vicky Orr-Ewing who generously allowed their home and garden to be taken over for the event, and ensured that everything was looking its very best.

St John the Baptist Patronal Flower Festival.
St John the Baptist actually has two festivals: 24th June for his birth and 29th August for his death. Over the weekend of 24/25th June, members of the Parochial Church Council and the ‘Flower Ladies’ set up an incredibly beautiful display of adornment using the theme, ‘For All the Saints’. New and old saints were included: St Nicholas was there with gold for the three young ladies who had no dowry of their own, St George was there, as was St Francis of Assisi whose life and work was commemorated on and around the font. Mother Teresa of Calcutta was celebrated and the whole church had never looked lovelier. On Saturday morning coffee was offered, followed by ploughman’s lunches, and on Sunday there was a celebratory service.
