Wychwood School

Residential Visit
Our Year 6 children had a great week in Kilvrough, South Wales. Rock climbing, canoeing, caving, a beach day of rock pool investigating and sand sculptures, made up the week. Evenings were spent doing team building activities and nighttime treks around the wonderful grounds. The staff commented on how well the children supported each other and how well behaved they were – good ambassadors for our school. An example of the children’s fantastic attitude occurred when they had a 4 a.m. wake up due to a fire alarm. Once it was established it was a false alarm, the children (and staff!) went straight to bed ready for an exciting day. The children shared their experiences with their parents the following week during a Kilvrough Assembly. Another successful residential full of memories for our Year 6 children. Until next year!

Year 3/4 Production
We were treated to excellent performances of We’ll Meet Again from the Year 3/4 children. The play is based on the experiences of evacuees in WWII which was part of the topic for the children in Lower Key Stage 2. We have some budding actors and, despite some opening night jitters, the children sang and performed with gusto. Parents commented on how well the performances went and we, though biased, cannot help but agree.

Staffing News
The Spring term saw the departure of Judith White who started at the school 21 years ago, recruited to set up our new Foundation Stage Unit. She felt it was the right time to retire to pursue her musical interests. Laura Richardson, who had been a teacher at the school for 6 years, has taken up a new post at Rush Common Primary School as the head of their Early Years department. Lesley Blackwell and Ros Haine, who had both been Teaching Assistants at the school for over 15 years, left due to family commitments. We thank them all for their hard work and dedication to our school. We have since welcomed Jill Hoadley and Ruth Llamas as teaching assistants, plus Sarah Hill who is covering Sycamore Class for the Summer Term.
