Shipton Cricket Club

Last year the mid-season wet weather strained our ability to prepare consistently playable pitches, but we did benefit from our fantastic new nets and the extra practise time they gave us will surely pay off in the long run. We go into the new season once again with four senior teams, a women’s team and a full suite of junior teams for girls and boys. And, for the first time we will field an U19 team in a new county competition. We’re delighted that our club professional will again be Anupam Sanklecha, who will be over from India for the fourth summer in a row. His bowling alone is well worth popping along to see when the 1st team is playing at home, especially when the sun is shining and the bar is open. During the winter months, Stephen Brain has handed over to Russell Hayes as club chairman and we made improvements to the drainage of both pitches; this year we are looking for a set of new mobile covers for the nursery pitch.

Weather permitting, the first Friday night of the season, for children of school years 2-6, will be 28th April. The U13s and U15 may begin outdoor training beforehand, depending on the weather. A registration form can be downloaded from the club’s website and we’d encourage parents and guardians to bring this along to the first training session. Subscription fees remain the same as last year.

Help needed and new players welcome
A dozen enthusiastic and experienced parents and helpers coach and manage the teams but we do need more help; specifically an extra manager for one of our U13 teams. We are also hoping to recruit new umpires and scorers, so if you have some knowledge of the game and want to learn more, or if you want to re-awaken some dormant skills and can help in any way, do contact me. We are always on the lookout for new players, seniors or juniors, and we cater for most standards and ages: players in our senior league teams have an age span of about fifty years! If you want to give it a go, come to one of our training nights. And should you just want to be part of the club but not play, social memberships are available at just £20.00. Whether you’re playing, helping, or just watching, we’d love to see you at the club.
