There was a great flurry on December 20th in the morning – no not snow – but activity at The Paddocks in Milton.
The party started at midday with an amazing Christmas buffet created by The Pantry; food and drinks were enjoyed by everyone.
On completion of the party food, the first part of the afternoon’s entertainment was delivered by the residents’ Speech Choir and Endorphin Club run by Mandyrae Jessey starting with Bernard and John performing Underneath the Arches dressed in a thick fur coat and sequinned trilby hat! It was followed by two poems, I Am the Sea and Santa’s Christmas Prayer and finished with the Endorphin Club singing Make Your Own Kind of Music.
The wonderfully talented and fun Gordon Halliday then played his accordion and led a singalong with the residents, staff and families. They enjoyed many old favourites including The Twelve Days of Christmas along with all the actions!
At the end of the afternoon the residents enjoyed A Paddocks Pocket Panto written by John Drew. The cast of 14 from the Speech Choir and Endorphin Club, dressed in professional costumes and wigs, presented the Panto for the residents. It contained many jokes and references to staff and residents and had the usual silly nonsense. It included a quick wheelchair dance and A Happy Crispness was sung at the end.
The staff and residents thoroughly enjoyed the day. Many hours rehearsing had taken place beforehand and everyone in all departments had worked hard to make the day a success. A very big thank you to Carly, Elizabeth-Rae, Andy, Sophie, Crissy, Sara and all the carers and residents.
Some of the residents were still dancing and singing later after many had left. The day had a wonderful atmosphere and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
2017 seems set fair for The Paddocks.
