The Wychwood Saplings

SaplingsFive years ago we asked you to watch us grow and that is just what we are doing. We had another amazing year with our summer show, Dragon, a musical. We performed in the Christmas show Wychwoods Got Talent; we entertained at the Paddocks in Milton, and put on a wonderful performance for Emma’s Trust in Chipping Norton.
New children joined us last year and existing members stayed on for another year of fun, exciting drama and performance. Each one of those children proved beyond doubt how capable they are and how much talent they have. They are a pleasure to have in The Saplings.

Grant Aid
At the end of the year we were delighted to receive £125 from the profits of Wychwoods Got Talent and the Milton under Wychwood WI sent us a further £195.
During the year Fiona Belardo joined the committee to help us raise much-needed funds and applied for some grants. Emma’s Trust gave us £400 towards more sound equipment and the Mid Counties Co-op sent us £1511 towards purchasing new lighting equipment.
These grants and unexpected donations have meant that we can offer The Saplings the chance to learn about backstage work and technology, plus an opportunity to involve those who love theatre but do not want to act or dance. We already have wonderful young people who are eager to be part of this scheme.

Summer Dreams
This year we have many events to look forward to. We will be dancing and singing in the arena at Milton village fete. Our summer show will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the musical written especially for young people to enjoy Shakespeare and to celebrate his 400th anniversary. We are also revisiting Archibald’s War due to its popularity and will present it in its new form at the Paddocks and Fernleigh in Witney in November AND we are also hoping to be invited back to Gordon’s Christmas Show!
We still have a few places available for young people from seven upwards ; we only charge £30 for a whole year and offer amazing opportunities for all those involved.
So keep your eyes open for the Saplings. They are growing quickly and have their roots firmly planted.
